WWBT Channel 12, Richmond, Virginia

Virginia's captial city's NBC Network affiliate ends its telecast day with a music video entitled "On Your Side", the slogan adopted by WWBT 12 the year before this recording was made and remains the station's slogan today (August 2020). The video features the WWBT 12 News staff in action and ends with a quick sign-off and "good night".

WWBT 12 began telecasting as WRVA-TV in April 1956 as an CBS affiliate, as was its radio sibling WRVA AM 1140. Channel 12's original studios resided in a converted cow barn near its current location. When CBS took its business to rival WTVR Channel 6 in 1960, WRVA-TV was stuck with ABC, as WXEX-TV/8 in Petersburd was the NBC station at the time. Channel 12 and Channel 8 did trade networks in 1965. The following year, Greensboro NC-based Jefferson Standard Insurance Company, later known as Jefferson-Pilot, bought Channel 12 and changed the calls to WWBT, the WBT taken from its historic AM radio station in Charlotte NC. Since January 2019 WWBT has been owned by Gray Television, which also controls several other Virginis TV stations, which includes fellow CBS affiliate WDBJ/7 in Roanoke.
