Sign-off clip of the Charlotte/Mecklenburg County PBS station, which is independent from the University of North Carolina TV network. The clip begins with the closing credits for The MacNeil/Leher News Hour, then to the sign-off announcement featuring views of downtown Charlotte.
WTVI, known today as PBS Charlotte, made its air debut in August 1965 as the television service of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education. In 1982, WTVI's license was transferred to the not-for-profit Charlotte–Mecklenburg Public Broadcasting Authority, turning the station into a community-owned entity. In July 2012 debt-ridden WTVI was acquired by Central Piedmont Community College, resulting in the station becoming an educational licensee for the second time in its history. Channel 42 is not a member of University of North Carolina Television. The UNC-TV station for the Charlotte market is WUNG-TV 58 in Concord.
TV-signoffs.com sends its thanks to Matt Sittel of Belleview, Nebraska for contributing this clip. Matt is a radio and TV "Station I.D." enthusiast, and once had a website with many hundreds of MP3 clips of station ID's from all over North America.
