WTVD "11 Together", Durham/Raleigh, North Carolina
News, Sign-off and SSB recorded 6 October 1979

Page created Friday, 7 May 2021

Here's a North Carolina TV station closedown the Webmaster remembers seeing back in his high school days. The most notable thing is that the late-1970s variation of the TV Code Seal is featured along with the 11 Together logo on the WTVD sign-off/on slide. Another interesing part is the mention of the phrase "horizontal and vertical polarized" in reference to the station's operating powers, language seldom heard in other TV station's sign-offs (WTVD's backyard rival, WRAL-TV/5, used the phrase "circular polarization" in its sign-off for years). Preceding the sign-off is a four minute rundown of the major national and state news, weather and sports of the day, followed by a twenty-second sermonette. The SSB film at the end is one of numerous produced by the Latter-day Saints church; this one was probably their most popular with TV stations.

A few notes on the history of Channel 11 can be found on the page for the Summer 1989 WTVD sign-off linked just below
