A fine set of videos that were dubbed from WREX's original master tape, hence the countdown at the start of both the sign-on and sign-off featuring an animated NBC cartoon peacock. Both the sign-on and sign-off uses the very same video montage featuring views of the WREX-TV studio building and downtown Rockford.

WREX-TV commenced operations on 1 October 1953 as a primary affiliate of the CBS network with a secondary affiliation with ABC. In 1965, Channel 13 went full-time with ABC when the new WCEE-TV 23 (now WIFR) took over CBS programming full-time. In 1995 WREX-TV swapped its ABC affiliation with that of long-time NBC affiliate WTVO Channel 17, and remains with NBC to this day. The station's call letters were selected in honor of Rex N. Caster, the son of the station's first president L.E. Caster. Rex Caster was a First Lieutenant in the United States Army who was killed in France during World War II.
