1971 Sign-off recorded December 1984
Page modified Saturday, 15 August 2020
A wonderful sign-off video from Philly's long-time ABC affiliate (and ABC's very first, going back to 1948), using "America The Beautiful" for its background music. This sign-off was actually produced in late April 1971 when Capital Cities Broadcasting acquired Channel 6, then known as WFIL-TV, and changed the call to WPVI-TV. This sign-off (and the sign-on which used the exact same video) was used by Channel 6 until Capital Cities merged with the ABC Network in 1986. It also features a 1970s-era ABC network logo graphic and the 1965 color version of the NAB's Seal of Good Practice. The sign-off is preceded by the closing moments of Perspectives, a WPVI-TV public affairs program in which this particular installment is a Christmas gathering of some sort. The Webmaster apologizes in advance for the poor audio quality in this clip.
