Page modified Saturday, 15 August 2020
The sign-off of Wisconsin Public Television (WPT) is preceded by the final forty-five seconds of a special New Year's Eve edition of PBS's Stargazer program, formerly known as Star Hustler, starring the late Jack Foley Horkheimer. This clip was captured from WPT's flagship station WHA-TV Channel 21 in Madison. WHA-TV was among the first educational/public TV stations to go on the air in the United States, in May 1954. It is the video offspring of WHA Radio AM-970, which is one of the oldest radio stations in the U.S., going back to 1915 as experimental station 9XM, licensed to the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The state of Wisconsin created five satellite stations for WHA-TV in the 1970s, comprising today's WPT system.
