Sign-On recorded circa 1982
Page modified Thursday, 2 July 2020
In this clip from RetrOntario.com, we are treated to three and a half minutes of test patterns. The second one is an old-school black-and-white TP adapted for color TV, used by a number of U.S. stations well into the 1980s. Then it's the sign-on itself, using the same slide as that of the 1980 WKBW-TV sign-off video linked to below. The NAB TV Code Seal that follows is the late 1970s-early 1980s design used before the NAB abolished its codes in 1983. Afterwards, it's the National Anthems of both the United States and the Dominion of Canada. The SSB film is one produced by the U.S. Navy, and the "O Canada" film is the same used in the 1980 WKBW-TV sign-off, featuring views of Niagra Falls. Then comes Just A Minute, an inspirational piece from the Buffalo area Council of Churches, followed by the opening thirty seconds of Channel 7's Eyewitness News This Morning.
