WGGT-TV 48 (now WMYV), Greensboro, North Carolina
Sign-Off recorded June 1993

Page updated and modified Friday, 14 August 2020

Very much a no-frills sign-off, with CGI-animated clouds, voice-over announcement, but no SSB video (color bars immediately follow). In 1991, financially-ailing Channel 48's operations were taken over by Act III Broadcasting, then owner of WGGT's rival WNRW-TV Fox 45 in Winston-Salem (now WXLV ABC 45), and began simulcasting the programming of that station. WNRW/WGGT promoted themselves as the Piedmont's Superstation during this time. This arrangement continued until 1996 when Channel 48 became WUPN-TV, the Triad's United Paramount Network (UPN) station. Since June 2006, Channel 48 is known as WMYV-TV and is affiliated with My Network TV. WMYV is a sister station of WXLV/45 (both are owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group) and shares studios and offices with them, which are located less than ten minutes from the Webmaster's residence. For some details of the early history of Channel 48, check out the 1988 WGGT-TV sign-off linked below.
