WEJC-TV Channel 20 (now WCWG), Lexington, NC
Sign-Off recorded Autumn 1988

Page updated and modified Tuesday, 16 June 2020

Sign-off of the current Triad CW network affiliate back when it was Christian TV station WEJC-TV (the call letters stood for "We Exalt Jesus Christ"). This pre-recorded sign-off was used by Channel 20 when it commenced operations in mid-1986. At the time WEJC was using a temporary transmitting antenna and was operating at half its authorized power. Apparently, they were still doing such by the time this clip was recorded, for WEJC was going through a lean period financially in the wake of the televangelist scandals of 1987-1988. The sign-off announcement is preceded by A Seed From The Sower, Michael Guido's one-minute sermonette. WEJC-TV did use a National Anthem video produced by Liberty University after the sign-off, but for reasons since forgotten, the Webmaster did not record it.

In 1995 Channel 20 changed owners and call letters (to WBFX-TV) and became the Piedmont Triad's station for the new Warner Brothers TV Network (The WB). In 2000 the calls were changed again to WTWB-TV (Triad's WB). When The WB became the CW Network in September 2006, Channel 20's calls changed to the current WCWG-TV (CW Greensboro) to reflect the network's name change. In the FCC's incentive auction of 2017, WCWG sold its spectrum for anout $106 million USD and shortly thereafter entered a channel-sharing arrangement with Hearst-owned Winston-Salem station WXII-TV/12. Hearst bought WCWG outright in February 2018, making it WXII's sister station.
