Sign-Off Summer 1964 Re-creation
Page modified Saturday, 13 June 2020
By request, this is an attempt by the Webmaster at re-creating the 1964 sign-off of Philadelphia's former CBS-TV Network station, now owned and operated by NBC-Universal. The WCAU-TV logo is from the 1960s, but the specimen used here not be the one actually used in the original sign-off. The audio is from Jeff Kadet's collection of 1964 TV station sign-off audio clips featured on the 1964 Audio Sign-Offs page here. The name of the announcer delivering the sign-off is not known.
WCAU-TV 10 commenced operation in May 1948 as Philadelphia's third TV station, behind the stations now known as KYW-TV 3 and WPVI-TV 6. Since WCAU Radio (now WPHT AM 1210) was one of the original affiliates of the CBS Radio Network, WCAU-TV took on the CBS-TV affiliation. In 1958 CBS itself purchased the WCAU stations. In 1995, the NBC network acquired WCAU-TV from CBS after a series of events too involved to discuss in depth here (read this Wikipedia article on WCAU for the details).
