sign-off clip of L.A.'s former Public Broadcasting
Service (PBS) affilliate. KCET severed its 40-year
relationship with PBS at the end of 2010 due to
irreconcilable disputes over financial and programming
matters. It became an independent, non-commercial station
as a result of the split. Channel 28's defection from PBS
caused a decrease in financial support and necessitated a
move to a new location for its studios. For forty-plus
years KCET telecast from facilities on Sunset Boulevard
in Hollywood that had been used in film and TV production
since 1912. KCET sold this historic studio to the Church
of Scientology in April 2011, and began operations in its
current location in Burbank the following year. KCET
returned to PBS as a secondary member when it merged with
Huntington Beach's PBS station KOCE-TV 50 in October 2018
The video features a few shots of Los Angeles at night, then a brief montage of KCET-PBS programming clips, and ends with a haunting close-up of the moon being overtaken by some dark-looking clouds.
TV-Signoffs.com tips its hat to Terrance Tucker of Pocoima, CA for unearthing this clip and donating a copy of it for posting here.
