Tampa's Channel 8 began life as WFLA-TV on St. Valentine's Day 1955 as an affiliate of the NBC Television Network. It continues as Tampa's outlet for NBC programming to the present day. From mid-January 1983 to the end of 1988 Channel 8's callsign was WXFL, in compliance to an FCC regulation in effect at the time, as discussed in the Wikipedia article on Channel 8. The station reverted to its original calls on New Year's Day 1989. The video here was recorded in Channel 8's second year as WXFL.

Two and a half minutes of this clip is the closing moments of the encore of the ActionNews 8 11:00 Report. The sign-off features a video view of the Tampa skyline at night with voice-over sign-off announcement and music, followed by color bars.
