Another variation of Wilmington's ABC station's sign-off, this one recorded off-cable during one of my vacations to Topsail Island/Surf City NC, about 35 miles northeast of Wilmington. This version uses a new announcer and video footage of the Wilmington area and the Cape Fear River. The station's ownership has changed as well (WWAY changed hands numerous times in its history - the current owner is Morris Multimedia). As with the 1989 sign-off linked below, the announcer recites the twenty-plus intercity relay stations and remote pickup units employed by the station. There's a brief view of the WWAY-TV color bars before the carrier is cut. At that moment, a different Channel 3 appears airing the All-News Channel. My guess is that this Channel 3 was either WBTV in Charlotte or WTKR-TV in Norfolk VA.
