| This clip of Bluefield's longtime NBC
affiliate Channel 6 was among many the Webmaster received
and recorded from his home in Winston-Salem NC in the
summer of 1989. It commences with NBC program bumpers for
Friday Night Videos (with guest Paula Abdul) and
Saturday Night Live (with guest Steve Martin).
The sign-off immediately follows these, which features
video of the two transmitters WVVA was using at the time
(the've both no doubt have since been retired with the
end of analog TV in 2009). The Harris TV20-L was the main
transmitter, installed only a year-and-a-half before this
clip was recorded. The RCA TT10-AL transmitter was no
doubt the one used by Channel 6 when it first signed on
as WHIS-TV in 1955. The SSB video is of unknown origin,
featuring a mixed chorus, scenes of nature, and fireworks
over the Statue of Liberty for the finale. There's
several seconds of a WVVA-TV color test pattern at the
end. RELATED
