WUPW-TV Channel 36, Toledo, Ohio
Sign-Off and SSB recorded circa 1993

Page modified Tuesday, 25 August 2020

This sign-off of Fox Toledo is somewhat reminiscent of the 1980s sign-off and sign-on used by WJZY-TV 46 in Charlotte NC, utilizing clips from various 1930s-40s black-and-white movies. The great comedian of stage, screen and radio, the late W.C. Fields, is seen in a couple of these clips. Preceding the sign-off is the closing of Cinema 36 Latenight, which is followed by four public service announcements. The SSB film is one produced by the U.S. Marine Corps that features the Iwo Jima Memorial statue in Washington DC. WUPW became one of the Fox Network's charter affiliates just one year after signing on initially in September 1985.

Video clip is from YouTube programmer capnvid47.
