Sign-Off recorded sometime in 1976
Page modified Monday, 24 August 2020
The year Nineteen Seventy-Six was the year of the United States' Bicentennial celebration. It was also the year that the video cassette recorder (VCR) began appearing in U.S. living rooms. This sign-off of Tampa's long-time former CBS network affiliate (1955-94, now a Fox O&O station) is among the earliest home videos of a TV station sign-off to currently exist. According to Big13.net (no longer online), the Channel 13 logo featured here was designed especially for the U.S. Bicentennial year; thirteen stars around the number 13, signifying the original thirteen U.S. colonies. The sign-off consists of the TV 13 logo graphic, a copyright statement graphic, and a NAB Seal of Good Practice "Member In Good Standing" graphic. The clip concludes with the U.S. Navy Hymn film, the same one featured in Spokane's KHQ-TV "Q-6" Sign-off from 1985.
