|Sign-off of Rockford, Illinois
present-day ABC network affiliate recorded back when it
was affiliated with the NBC-TV Network. WTVO first signed
on as such in May 1953 on Channel 39. The call letters
stood for Winnebago TeleVision Organization, the station's original
licensee. In 1967, with the blessing of the FCC, WTVO
began transmitting on Channel 17. In 1995, after 42 years
as Rockford's NBC outlet, WTVO swapped network
affiliations with WREX-TV Channel 13 and became a
full-time ABC-TV station.
The clip kicks off with the closing credits of NBC's Friday Night Videos. This is followed by a promo for the upcoming NBC fall sitcom Jennifer Slept Here, starring Ann Jillian (the show would last only one season). After a quick station identification comes a brief weather report, sponsorded by Fisher's Appliance & TV Centers. The WTVO sign-off is next, just a static station ID slide and voice-over. For the SSB finale, its one produced by the United States Navy, featuing a young Navy man returning home to his family and telling them of his adventures.
