Sign-off clip of the Roanoke Valley's first TV station, which starts off with a combination legal station identification and promo for A Current Affair. From there it's on to Words To Live By, featuring Rabbi Jerome Fox of the Beth Israel Synagogue rendering the Hebrew prayer "Avinu Malkeinu (Our Father, Our King)". It is the prayer that Jews the world over have recited for Rosh Hashana (Jewish New Year) through Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement) for thousands of years, and is the oldest known Hebrew song.

Following the prayer is the WSLS -TV sign-off, featuring night views of downtown Roanoke and the Channel 10 studio building. Look carefully toward the end and you will get a glimpse of the 1950's-vintage NBC-TV "Color Chimes" logo underneath the Channel 10 electric sign.

TV-Signoffs.com thanks Tamar Alexia Fleischman of Baltimore MD for the information about "Avinu Malkeinu". She writes articles on culture and culinary travel for Examiner.com.
