|Indianapolis' current ABC network
affiliate calls it a day. The video opens with the final
few seconds of the pre-signoff religious program, then
quickly goes to the sign-off itself, consisting only of
voice-over and static WRTV ID slide. This is followed by
one of numerous patriotic pieces produced by the Church
of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a.k.a. The Mormons.
This one is done to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's
rendition of "My Country 'Tis Of Thee".
WRTV is the oldest TV station in the state of Indiana, commencing operations on 30 May 1949 as WFBM-TV and as a CBS network affiliate. In 1956 Channel 6 became an NBC station, and was such until 1979, when it swapped networks with WTHR Channel 13, and became an ABC station, as it is currently. During the 1950s WFBM-TV had secondary affiliations with the DuMont Network and the original film-based Paramount Television Network. Channel 6 became WRTV in 1972 as a result of an ownership change.
