| Channel 28* was an NBC network affiliate
from its initial sign-on in 1968 to 1995, and from then
to 2006 was a UPN affilliate (it is now a MyNetworkTV
station). This clip is not a "sign-on" in the
traditional sense, but an announcement signifying the
start of a new broadcast day (apparently it was on 24
hours a day most days at this time). It is sandwiched
bewteen program promos for The Carolina Football Show
(UNC Tarheels) and The Muppet Show. This clip
was contributed by John Pinckney of Pasadena, CA. It was
recorded by his grandmother Ethel Garvin at her home in
South Carolina. (*) - The current Channel 28 in the Raleigh/Durham area is not related in any way to the original Channel 28, WNAO-TV, which operated from mid-1953 to December 1957. This was North Carolina's first UHF-TV station and was affiliated at various times with CBS, ABC, and the old DuMont Network. It was owned by The News and Observer newspaper, hence the call letters.
