WNAS-TV Cable Channel 2, New Albany, Indiana
Sign-on and Friday Sign-off recorded circa mid-1988

Page created Saturday, 24 April 2021

Our offering here is unique to TV-Signoffs.com: It's the sign-on and sign-off of a cable TV channel operated by New Albany High School in New Albany, Indiana. At the time of this recording, WNAS-TV was only operating on weekdays from 7:30 AM to 9 PM local time, carrying some Discovery Channel programming as well as their own locally-produced shows. The sign-off here was used on Friday evenings. Visually, there is little variation between the sign-on and sign-off; both feature glimpses of the WNAS studio and equipment.

WNAS-TV commenced operations in early 1980 as the video offspring of WNAS Radio 88.1 FM. The radio station took to the air in May 1949 as the first-ever FM radio station licensed by the Federal Communicatioins Commission (FCC) to a high school. WNAS-TV's inaugural program was the 1980 boys’ basketball sectional finals. The station has since been moved to channel 25 on the local cable system and runs 24/7 with its own student-produced programming. Among its offerings are weekly athletic shows, major school and community events, and election results.
