SIGN-OFFS U.S. TV Station Comments or questions? Graphics and design copyright 2009 by J. Alan Wall. All rights reserved. |
| This sign-off of NBC Television's Chicago
O&O station is preceded by a slew of public service
announcements, some featuring celebrities Diahann
Carroll, Vic Damone and Michael Jordan. After all these
and a station ID comes the sermonette Meditation, with
the message delivered by the Reverend Claude Tears of the
First Corinthians Baptist Church. The sign-off
announcement follows, which is followed by an SSB film by
the U.S. Marine Corps, depicting the raising of the
American Flag. WMAQ-TV was the child of the long-time NBC
AM radio station of the same call letters that signed off
for good in August of 2000, after 78 years of
broadcasting. In 1956, WMAQ-TV was also the first TV
station on the planet to air all of its local programs in
color. WEBMASTER'S NOTE: This clip appears here courtesy of The Museum of Classic Chicago Television, a.k.a. FuzzyMemories.tv. FuzzyMemories is a site devoted to the study, acquisition, preservation, exhibition and nostalgic enjoyment of Chicagoland television. |
