Sign-On from circa 1986
Page modified Thursday, 2 July 2020
This sign-on clip for the current "CW 56" in Boston is from the period when the Gannett Company owned the station (1983-1994), and was Boston's second most popular indie TV station behind WSBK-TV 38. The WLVI-TV 56 logo design is a holdover from the station's previous owner, Field Communications (1977-1983), which owned WLFD-TV 32 in Chicago and the long-defunct WKBS-TV 48 in Philadelphia. Sunbeam Television, the owner of WHDH-TV 7, is the current owner of "CW 56".
The clip commences with two brief segments featuring the WLVI-TV color test pattern. The first has a sign-on announcement, delivered by Tom Evans, followed by ten seconds of tone. The second has a snatch of recorded music, which is quickly followed by the Sierra Club-produced SSB film, performed by the Stanford University Band. After this comes the sign-on prayer from Rabbi Abraham Halbfinger of the Congregation Kadimah Toras Moshe. Tom Evans announces the "official" sign-on after the prayer. The WLVI 56 logo differs slightly in design from the one used in the sign-off, linked below. The clip closes with the opening of Bozo' Big Top.
