| A rare clip from Philadelphia's long-defunct
and much-missed independent UHF station, which was on the
air from 1965 to 1983. For a good many of those years, it
was Philly's number one UHF indie, competing with WPHL-TV 17 and WTAF-TV 29. The clip begins
with the entirety of the sermonette, Prayer For Today.
The National Anthem film that follows the sign-off
announcement is the one produced by the Sierra Club, with
the SSB played by the Stanford University Band. This clip
is NOT the eagerly sought-after farewell sign-off of
August 30 of 1983, for no video of that has turned up as
of yet. To hear the audio of the final WKBS-TV 48
sign-off, and to view the interesting history of the
station, visit the Broadcast
Pioneers of Philadelphia's WKBS-TV page. WEBMASTER'S NOTE: This clip appears here courtesy of The Museum of Classic Chicago Television, a.k.a. FuzzyMemories.tv. FuzzyMemories is a site devoted to the study, acquisition, preservation, exhibition and nostalgic enjoyment of Chicagoland television. |
