Final Analog Sign-off - Friday, 12 June 2009
Page modified Wednesday, 1 July 2020
During the final moments of analog transmission in the U.S. TV stations did a number of things before the signal was cut off for the final time. Some simply posted messages on the screen to warn analog viewers of the shutdown and to make the necessary adjustments. A few stations did nothing and just pushed the button. But many stations did something special to commemorate the occasion. Among those were Dayton's CBS affiliate WHIO-TV, which did an special edition of NewsCenter 7 featuring the goings-on in Channel 7's master control room. WHIO-TV's chief engineer, Chuck Eastman, does a little countdown before the the button on his computer screen is clicked to terminate the analog signal. However, the signal does not go off right away, but continues for an additional forty-five seconds before the video blizzard finally appears to end the video.
