The NBC network affiliate station for western Illinois, northeastern Missouri and southeastern Iowa ended 56 years of analog telecasting after their 12:00 noon newscast with anchor Natalie Will and meterorologist Rich Cain. The honor of turning off the analog signal for the final time is given to co-anchor Katie Walls, stationed at the transmitter controls. This clip was obviously recorded "over the air" from great distance from the station, judging from the fuzziness in the signal.

WGEM-TV first signed on the day after Independence Day in July 1953. It has been a primary NBC network station since its inception, and also had secondary affiliations with ABC (1953-1969 and 1971-mid 1990s) and Fox (1990-1994). The station still transmits on VHF Channel 10, in digital, of course. WGEM currently runs Fox network programming on its subchannel 10.3, and on 10.2 airs shows of The CW network.
