The final version of Wilmington's NBC station recorded off the cable while vacationing at Topsail Island NC. Clip begins with a promo for an upcoming Inside Edition, followed by a PSA featuring Wilmington native Michael Jordan. Fans of the 1966-71 ABC soap opera Dark Shadows will recognize Kathryn Leigh-Scott (Josette, Maggie Evans) in the Inside Edition promo. The SSB film after the sign-off is that of the U.S. Navy's Blue Eagles Flight Demonstration Squadron. This is perhaps one of the first sign-offs the Webmaster remembers seeing where the TV station advertises its web site. This version of the WECT sign-off ran from 1995 until 2002, when Channel 6 finally went to 24/7 operation.

Channel 6 is Wilmington's first television facility, launched in April 1954 as WMFD-TV, after its then parent AM radio station WMFD 630 (the calls were changed to WECT in 1958). It has been with NBC since its start up. Since 2003 WECT has been the sister station of Wilmington's WSFX-TV Fox 26 and shares its studio facilities with them and also produces Fox 26's news programming.

On that same Friday night this clip was recorded, the Webmaster also captured the sign-off of another historic eastern NC TV station, Greenville's WNCT Channel 9.
