Back in mid-April (2021) TV-Signoffs.com posted a sign-off/on video from Idaho Falls's ABC station KIFI-TV as proof that there was one U.S. TV station still signing off at least one night every week. Now we've run across another video from the U.S. Northwest. This one is from Eugene, Oregon's CBS network affiliate, which still signs off for several hours on early Saturday and Sunday mornings. Unlike the KIFI-TV video, KVAL's is very impressive visually, but lacking in the aural department, for the announcer is given very little to say. We do hear a bit of America the Beautiful played during the sign-off. After the sign-off is a static graphic displaying KVAL's repeater stations in Roseburg (KPIC/4) and Coos Bay/North Bend (KCBY/11).

KVAL-TV commenced telecasting in April 1954 as a primary affiliate of the NBC network, but also featured programming from ABC, CBS, and DuMont, as well. Channel 13 went full-time with NBC in 1960 when KEZI Channel 9 took over the ABC and CBS affiliations. In summer 1978,KVAL began airing five hours of CBS programming every week, as NBC was struggling in third place in the Nielsen ratings. The hours of CBS shows was increased over the following four years. Channel 13 went full-time with CBS in 1982 when NBC went over to KMTR Channel 16, which first took to the air that year. KVAL-TV was locally owned until 1996. Since 2013 Channel 13 has been a part of the Sinclair Broadcast Group.
