The clip begins with the closing seconds of KTVU's inspirational piece Day's End, then on to a static station ID "Good Night" slide with a 1980 copyright date. The audio announcement doesn't even mention that the station is signing off. It's probable that Channel 2 used this same audio at sign-on time as well. The NAB Television Code Seal of Good Practice, dated 1981, appears at the end of the announcement which from there goes to the National Anthem film of unknown origin.

KTVU first signed on in March 1958 as an independent (no network) station. It was the Bay Area's leading indie until October 1986 when it joined the newly-launced Fox Network as a charter affiliate (Fox would acquire Channel 2 outright in 2014). During the late 1970s and early 1980s KTVU competed against Atlanta's WTBS (now WPCH-TV), Chicago's WGN-TV and New York's WOR-TV (now WWOR-TV) as a national cable superstation, but with little success.
