Sign-off & Moog SSB recorded circa 1983<
Page modified Tuesday, 30 June 2020
A nice filmed sign-off piece from Phoenix's NBC network station, which is actually licensed to nearby Mesa. The film starts with a view of the Grand Canyon followed by various nature scenes (there's also some scratches in the film, suggesting that it may have been made some years before). The ever-popular Moog SSB film comes afterwards. The slogan "It's All Right Here" was the one NBC was using to promote itself at the time this recording was made.
Channel 12 has been an affiliate of NBC since the station's air debut in April 1953 under the calls KTYL-TV. An ownership change resulted in the calls becoming KVAR in 1955. Four years later the calls became KTAR-TV. They remained such until 1979 when the Gannett Company acquired Channel 12 in a merger with Combined Communications, which KTAR-TV was a part of at the time. Gannett changed the calls to the current KPNX in June 1979. In 2015 Gannett split into two companies, it's broadcast division taking the name of Tegna, which retains ownership of KPNX today.
