KNDU Channel 25, Richland/Tri-Cities, Washington
Sign-off & SSB recorded 22 January 1987

Page modified Tuesday, 30 June 2020

A nice pre-recorded sign-off piece from the NBC station for Washington state's Tri-Cities area (Richland/Pasco/Kennewick). It features scenes of the area along with some acoustic guitar for the music. Among the visuals is a shot of the sign in front of the KNDU studio building still bearing the 1979 NBC-TV "N and Peacock" logo which NBC replaced in mid-1986 with its current peacock design. The SSB film that follows is a composite; the video is from a SSB from the Latter-day Saints Church (Mormon), and the audio is one from the U.S. Air Force (unfortunately, the final few seconds of the SSB is missing here). The sign-off is preceded by promos for upcoming episodes of NBC's Stingray and Miami Vice.

From its initial launch in October 1961, KNDU has operated as a semi-satellite of NBC affiliate KNDO Channel 23 in Yakima. As a station in its own right, KNDU does air its own nightly newscasts, commercials and legal station IDs. Since July 1999 both stations has been owned and operated by the Spokane-based Cowles Company as part of the KHQ Television Group (Cowles owns KHQ-TV "Q-6" in Spokane).
