Sign-Off recorded 5 January 1987
Page modified Saturday, 6 June 2020
"The Spirit of South Texas", as Corpus Christi's long-time ABC-TV network station branded itself at the time, calls it a night. Leading off in this video is the final moments of ABC News Weekend Edition anchored by Tom Jarriel, who would retire from ABC News in 1991. Immediately following is the U.S. Air Force's "split-screen" National Anthem film, with "Old Glory" resting in the middle of the screen. After this, the viewers are treated to a midnight cruise through downtown Corpus Christi, with superimposed images of neon signs and a passing KIII-TV 3 news van thrown in. The music is supplied by the rock band Journey, via their hit recording of "Lights" (When The Lights Go Down In The City). The sign-off message says, in essence, "we're outta here, see ya at sign-on, g'night".
