|KIEM-TV Channel 3, Eureka, California|
Station Sign-off recorded circa 2002

|A nice early-21st century sign-off
from the NBC network affiliate serving northern coastal
California. The city of Eureka resides on the shores of
Humboldt Bay, 270 miles north of San Francisco. Scenes of
Humboldt Bay make up the video in the sign-off, as well
as a nod to KIEM-TV's advertisers in the audio. Channel 3
did not use any SSB of patriotic videos in their
sign-offs and sign-ons. The clip ends with 30 seconds of
color bars followed by static.|
KIEM-TV commenced telecasting in October 1953 as Eureka's first television facility. Its original primary network affiliation was with CBS, but also carried programs from NBC, ABC and DuMont in its first years. In 1985 Channel 3 went full-time with NBC, which at the time had become America's number one rated network (KIVQ-TV 14 in Eureka got the CBS affiliation as a result). KIEM's call stands for "Keep Informed Every Minute".
