|A brief sign-off announcement with a static
station ID graphic. It is preceded by program promos for News
13 and the sitcom Gimme A Break , which
starred the late Nell Carter. Concludes with an awesome
SSB clip produced by the United States Navy, then
followed by color bars.
From its initial sign-on as KMTR-TV in September 1948 until the mid-1990s, KCOP-TV was one of four independent VHF stations operating in Los Angeles (the others were KTLA 5, KJH-TV 9, now KCAL, and KTTV 11). Among the famous personalities that got their start in TV at KCOP were Betty White, Leonard Nimoy and Regis Philbin. The station is now affiliated with MyNetwork TV. Of the four aforementioned indie VHFs in LA, only KCAL-TV 9 is still an indie.
TV-signoffs.com gives a "hats-off" to Terrance Tucker of Pocoima, CA for unearthing this clip and donating a copy of it for posting here!
