INTRODUCTION 2009 was the year that the United States finally retired the 525-line NTSC analog system of television broadcasting used since 1941 in favor of the current ATSC digital system. Initially, all U.S. TV stations were required by the Federal Communications Commision (FCC) to terminate their telecasting in analog and begin digital-only transmission on Tuesday, 17 February 2009. Back in January, Congress and the President had the date rescheduled for Friday, 12 July 2009. However, several hundred TV stations elected to end their analog transmissions on the original date. Below is a listing of the videos of some of those that did make the switch on 17 February, followed by lists of clips for analog farewells for 12 June and other dates. |
