KATU-TV Channel 2, Portland OR A brief sign-off clip, showing several video shots of KATU's studio and transmitter facilities and the first second or two of KATU's all-night news feed that ran until 6 am PDT. This clip, along with the KPTV, OEPBS and KEBN clips below, came from the For Portlanders Only website, which features many dozens of video clips of Portland TV stations' programming from the mid-1970s to the present day. |

KPTV Channel 12, Portland OR Now I present what may be one of the shortest TV station sign-off pieces ever. This one only runs a mere fourteen seconds, so I would call this one a "drive-by" sign-off. I don't know whether or not KPTV ran a patriotic film of any kind following this clip. If they did, it wasn't included in this recording. |

Oregon Educational and Public Broadcasting
Service (OEPBS) Starts off with the animated PBS network I.D. that was used through all of the 1970s and into the early 1980s. It is then followed by a brief promo for an enviromental special and an OEPBS station I.D. slide. After this, it appears that a program is just beginning, but after a few seconds we see another network station I.D. slide and the sign-off announcement commences. |

KOTI-TV Channel 2, Klamath Falls OR Sign-Off circa 1989 The clip begins with a fifty-second station ID graphic still with a jet plane flying in front of Mount Shasta (in California). From there it goes directly to the sign-off announcement, which features the master control operator grabbing the tape containing the KOTI-TV sign-on and sign-off clips, inserting it into the VTR, and then shutting down the equipment and lights. WEBMASTER'S NOTE: A
big "Thank-You" to Mike Summers of Chico, CA
for contributing this clip as |

KTVL Channel 10, Medford OR Sign-Off from circa 1991 It features brief clips of the station facilities on Rossanley Drive and the main transmitter on Mount Ashland. The beginning and end show background stills of such beautiful sites at Mount Shasta, the Oregon Coast and Crater Lake (?) to name a few. There is a lot of "rainbow" distortion at the start of this clip, no doubt because it was taped over a portion of a VHS videocassette that had been recorded previously. |
|
KEBN-TV Channel 32 (now KRCW), Salem OR
Sign-On Sign-on clip used by KEBN during its eight-hour-a-day test transmissions during the summer of 1994 (it went to full-time telecasting by Labor Day). It features video of the glories of nature, then is followed by a graphic of Bugs Bunny standing by the famous Warner Brothers sheild as the station announcer introduces a public domain movie. For more information on this station's testing period, visit this page! |
NOTE: The video files featured on this website are taken from my VHS home recordings of over-the-air and cable video captures, and from clips contributed by others. The quality varies from clip to clip, due to TV reception and recording issues. None of the clips that are featured here have been authorized by the various television stations, networks or any other entity.
