KMUV-TV 31 (now KMAX) My thanks go to Mark Chiolis of Burbank CA for submitting these two clips. Chiolis worked for Channel 31 in the 1980s when it was KRBK-TV. These clips dates from 1979 or 1980. At the time the station was owned by legendary 1970s sitcom producer Norman Lear (All In The Family, Good Times, Maude, etc.). Lear would sell the station a year later. After several changes in owners and affiliations with the old WB and UPN networks, Channel 31 is now with the CW network and is owned by CBS Corporation along with its sister station KOVR-TV 13 in Stockton. |

KRBK-TV 31 (now KMAX), Sacramento CA Sign-Off from 1986 It's one of those TV station sign-off pieces that highlights some of the inner workings of the station's control room. It begins with a tape cartridge marked "Sign-Off" half-inserted into an RCA videotape deck. There's also a shot of a film chain that is running a color episode of the classic 1960s sitcom My Three Sons. It concludes with a scrolling list of the entire KRBK-TV staff (sixty-two names in all) and a computer-generated KRBK-TV logo. |

KHSL-TV Channel
12, Chico CA It begins with the Studio-to-Transmitter Microwave link KML-92, which is still in use today. There is a brief shot of Mount Shasta and stock clips of the North Valley with standard shots of the station itself and the KHSL Radio building, which now houses KNVN-TV 24. There was a national anthem film at the end of the sign-off, but it was not recorded. WEBMASTER'S NOTE: A big "Thank-You" to Mike Summers of Chico, CA for contributing this clip as well as the KRCR-TV and KHSL (2003) sign-off clips below. |

KRCR-TV Channel 7, Redding CA Sign-Off and Sign-On from 1995 Both the sign-off and sign-on uses the same video montage, which features footage of Mt. Shasta, Shasta Dam, Lower Falls of the McCloud River, Mossbrae Falls (in Dunsmuir), Shasta Bally Mountain (with the transmitter shown), the Sacramento River (in Redding), Mt. Eddy (?), Upper Falls of the McCloud River and Shasta Lake. A fraction of a second of the SSB is seen after the sign-off clip. I'm unable to explain the differences in the hues between the two clips, for this is how I received them. |

KHSL-TV Channel
12, Chico CA Features a montage of still clips at the start and end of the footage with clips of the station broadcast equipment and a picture of the original downtown studios on East 4th and Wall Streets (now an offcie complex) taken in the 1950's. The station, now owned by Catamount Broadcasting, aired this during the weekends only, but no longer airs any sign-ons or sign-offs. The station goes directly to color bars after ending their weekend broadcast days. The sign-on is exactly the same with the opening and closing being different. |
|
KTVU Channel 2, Oakland/ The clip begins with the closing seconds of KTVU's inspirational piece Day's End, then on to a static station ID slide for the sign-off announcement which doesn't even mention that the station is signing off (perhaps they used this clip at sign-on time as well). The NAB Television Code Seal of Good Practice appears at the end of the announcement which from there goes to the National Anthem film. |
|
KCRA-TV Channel 3, Sacramento CA Sign-Off from 1986 Probably the longest TV station sign-off piece I've ever seen, running nearly eight minutes in length! It commences with the U.S. Air Force's High Flight film, this version very unsimilar to the one that KABC-TV ran in their sign-offs. From there another film featuring the song "Bluebird of Happiness", rendered by the late great American tenor Jan Peerce. And finally, the station's sign-off announcement piece, a slick-looking piece of work that looks a few years ahead of its time! |

KUSI-TV Channel 51, San Diego CA Sign-Off and Sign-On from 1992 Sign-off and sign-on are combined into one clip. Both use "America the Beautiful" for its background music and begins with the United States Flag. The sign-off features video of San Diego at night, and we see morning scenes of San Diego in the sign-on piece. My apologies for the distorted audio in the sign-on clip, for that was how I received it. |
NOTE: The video files featured on this website are taken from my VHS home recordings of over-the-air and cable video captures, and from clips contributed by others. The quality varies from clip to clip, due to TV reception and recording issues. None of the clips that are featured here have been authorized by the various television stations, networks or any other entity.
